I'm Finn and I'm 10 years old. This is me on the right. The above image is Master Deluxe, a linoleum block print or linocut of the vintage car made by Chevrolet. I didn't make this image but I've chosen it to decorate my page because of my love for classic cars. I love them because of their style - I love cars and especially old trucks such as Internationals. Also, they don't seem as plain as modern day cars. I've included some images of vehicles that have inspired me below. |

My Print Making
I decided to do some linocut print making of my own. Here I am using a cutting tool. I found it easy at first but it got more difficult, I had to concentrate a lot. It's tough but never give up! As I live by the sea, I used the beach as my inspiration for my first prints. I'm starting to get into boats and I show some pictures of them in my photography section. In the pictures below, you can see that I started with a simple image, then I added more detail. Finally, I moved on to using two colours. |
My Photography
I enjoyed taking pictures at my local fishing beach as I imagined that I was restoring some of the old vehicles. I imagined I was taking the cab and I was turning it into a truck. I liked getting up close and taking photos of the details on the vehicles. I learned that it's good to have something pointing to what you're taking the photo of, this could be a part of a boat that points up to the sky. Don't have the image in the centre of the picture. |
Excitingly, I got the chance to explore inside an old abandoned building that is just about to start renovation work. It's called the Observer Building and it used to be where they printed the local newspaper. I was one of the last people to see it how it is before work starts. Part of the building was built into a cave in the cliff and there was a tunnel leading to a small area of the cave where you could see the rock. The tunnel felt spooky and like I was solving a crime. I had an idea in my imagination for a film about 'The Underground Hairdressers' because I'm unable to get my hair cut because of Covid.
While I was in the building I experimented with long exposure settings on my camera - this meant some of my pictures came out ghostly which is a cool effect. The pavement and the road were coming into the foundation wall of the building and that was cool.

My ghostly effect picture is above - I'm really proud of this picture as I think it looks really cool.
What Inspired Me Most
Out of everything I've tried, Web Design & Build is the activity that excites and inspires me the most. I get to make a lot of choices and I can write about anything I want - even my interest in classic cars. I just loved putting together the classic car gallery, and this helped me to choose what I wanted to do for my final piece. I did absolutely love exploring the abandoned Observer Building because I love old things. I like building websites because it's a mix of everything and the website can be about anything you feel passionate about. |
